ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (January 27, 2010) - Amber
Heistan
and Brittainy Daiger each netted
13 points to lead Rollins to a 64-50 road win over Eckerd,
Wednesday.
The victory improves Rollins to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in Sunshine
State Conference play while Eckerd falls to 6-10, 1-7 SSC.
Heistan and Daiger each tallied five field goals with Daiger adding
four rebounds and Heistan dishing out three assists. Paris
Moore chipped in 11 points to go along with four assists and
three steals.
Eckerd's Ashley Lutz netted a game high 17 points and tallied nine
rebounds with Krystal Charles adding 12 points off the bench.
The Tars never trailed at any point in the game and were locked in
just one tie the entire night. Rollins opened the game on a 9-0 run
until the Tritons cracked the scoreboard four minutes in. Eckerd
was within six, midway through the period until a Kristina Mingos
3-pointer and Julie Gorman put back gave
the Tars an 11 point, 21-10 lead.
Eckerd chipped away and closed the gap to one with 100 seconds left
in the opening period before a Daiger 3-pointer with 16 tick
remaining gave Rollins a 28-24 halftime lead.
The Tritons opened the second half on a 4-0 run to tie the score at
28 before a 17-5 Rollins spurt over the next eight minutes gave the
visitors a 45-33 advantage. Heistan connected on a 3-pointer with
just under eight minutes to play to give Rollins a 55-39 lead and
the Tars cruised the rest of the way for their third straight
win.
Rollins shot 47 percent (24-51) in the game, behind a 56 percent
(14-25) performance in the second half. The Tars stifling defense
held the Tritons to34 percent (17-49) shooting and forced 18
turnovers. Eckerd earned a slight edge in rebounds, 33-32.
Rollins returns home Saturday, Jan. 30 to start the second half of
their Sunshine State Conference schedule at 2 p.m. against Lynn.
Rollins fell to the Fighting Knights 69-67 in Boca Raton to begin
their SSC schedule in December.
