WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 30 2010) -
With her first double-double performance of the season under her
belt, Brittainy Daiger led the
charge as Rollins lanced the Lynn University Fighting Knights 64-48
on Saturday afternoon in Warden Arena.
After dropping a contest to the Fighting Knights earlier in the
season, Rollins (14-5, 7-2 SSC) takes the easy victory and hands
Lynn (11-8, 3-6 SSC) their sixth loss in the month of January.
With the win, Rollins takes their 18-straight home conference
game and fourth straight victory. Three Tars posted double-figure
scoring efforts, with Paris Moore leading the
charge with 16 points, Daiger with 14, and Amber
Heistan notching 11.
Heistan directed play with four assists, while Daiger, Moore,
and Tera
McDaniel tallied three apiece.
Lynn got the ball rolling with a layup from Schultz eight
seconds in, but Rollins found the equalizer with a Daiger jumper to
knot things up. The Tars pulled ahead by two with another score
from Daiger, but a trey from Quanisha Dixon pulled the Fighting
Knights ahead by a slim one-point margin.
After minutes of back and forth action that saw Rollins lose
grasp of a seven point lead, LU stretched their advantage to three
with 16:56 on the clock. The Fighting Knights quickly lost hold as
Daiger sank two from the charity stripe to close the gap to one,
and then pulled the Tars ahead with a layup with 15:25 before the
half to hand Rollins the lead for good.
The Tars extended their advantage to as much as 20 in the second
half, shutting down the opponent that defeated them in a
heartbreaking 69-67 Sunshine State Conference opener back on
December 5.
Madeleine Doyle headed up Lynn with a double-double of her own
of 15 points, 10 rebounds on the afternoon. Amanda Schultz was
close behind with nine points, eight rebounds. The duo found
success at the line, with Doyle knocking down 5-of-8 opportunities
and Schultz draining 5-of-6.
Rollins held the advantage defensively, out-rebounding Lynn
42-37, including 31 defensive boards. Lynn took the reins in
points in the paint 18-16, second chance points 9-8, fast break
points 9-7, and points off the bench 17-13, but Rollins held a
dominating advantage in points off of turnovers, 21-11.
The Tars return to action for one final non-conference game,
hosting Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, February 3. Tipoff
against the Sailfish is set for 5:30 p.m. at Warden Arena in the
Alfond Sports Center. Fans who cannot make it to the game can
