INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 27, 2010) -
Riding stellar starts to their seasons, both Rollins men's and
women's basketball teams earned spots in the first NCAA Division II
South Region rankings, release Wednesday.
The region consists of schools from the Sunshine State Conference,
Gulf South Conference and Southern Intercollegiate Conference with
the top eight teams in the final rankings earning bids into the
NCAA Tournament.
The Rollins men (14-3), currently on a five-game winning streak and
ranked 20th in the nation, checked in at No. 4 in the first region
poll of the season. Arkansas Tech of the GSC, also the top team in
the nation, heads the poll, followed by Clark Atlanta of the SIAC
and Valdosta State from the GSC.
Behind Rollins sits Delta State, Florida Southern, Tuskegee and
Barry.
On the women's side, the Tars (12-5) enter the poll at No. 9 after
winning five of their last six games. Arkansas Tech heads the
women's ranking as well, followed by Delta State and Fort Valley
State. SSC foes Tampa and Florida Southern are ranked fourth and
fifth, respectively, with Valdosta State, Benedict and Christian
Brothers rounding out the top eight.
The Tars men's and women's basketball teams are back in action on
Wednesday, Jan. on the road against Eckerd. The women's tip is
slated for 5:30 p.m. with the men's to follow at 7:30. Fans can
