SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Rollins baseball team fell to the Saint Leo Lions in nonconference action, 7-0, Tuesday evening at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

The Tars (22-15) finished with seven hits and left eight runners stranded, while the Lions (14-23) collected eight hits and also left eight runners on base.

Leading Rollins was Bryan Bennett and his 2-for-4 performance. The Longwood, Fla., native hit a third inning two-out double, his 18th of the season, but was unable to score after a groundout on the following at bat.

Converted first baseman, Stephen Hiscock, was 2-for-3 with a single through the right side and an infield single to increase his season average to .448.

Starter Danny Clark (2-4) suffered the loss allowing three runs from five hits in four innings of work. Chad Giannuzzi came in for relief in the fifth and pitched 1.2 innings, surrendering a run off a hit. After a brief stint from Matt White and Taylor Smith, Dean Reinke pitched the final two innings giving up just one hit.

For the Lions, Matt Smith went seven innings holding the Tars to just six hits and only one walk. Stephen Daneman and Dale Slimick pitched an inning each in the shutout effort.

Lions' shortstop Bobby Munoz paved the way with a 3-for-3 performance with a walk and was hit by a pitch. He highlighted his day with a sixth inning two-out grand slam over the left field wall. Designated hitter Jonathan Duncan was the other Saint Leo hitter to record multiple hits with two.

The Tars and Lions evened the 2009 series to two after Rollins claimed 2-of-3 during the conference schedule in February.

Rollins has a quick turnaround when it returns to the diamond, Thursday April, 8 for a conference showdown against Lynn beginning at 3 p.m.
