WINTER PARK, FLA. (March 19, 2009)-
The duo of Nicole
Anderson, who threw a no-hitter in game one and Rachael
Foster, who tossed a perfect game in the nightcap as No.25
Rollins defeated St. Thomas Aquinas by scores of 2-0 and 3-0,
Thursday night. With the pair of wins the Tars improve to 26-4
(3-3).
Anderson recorded 16 strikeouts, surrendering zero hits, and only
two walks in seven innings of work. Anderson now joins fellow
senior Rachael
Foster and former star pitcher Jamie Elam atop the record books
with for strikeouts in a game.
Offensively the Tars posted two runs, which was all they needed to
secure the victory Thursday evening. Kristina
Holland improved her season batting average to .474 as she went
a combined 5-for-6 in the two games. Collecting RBIs for the Tars
were Monica
Meadows and Rachel
Almengual, as they each knocked in one run apiece to secure the
victories.
The only blemish on the scoresheet for the Tars were the two walks
that were issued by Nicole
Anderson. St. Thomas Aquinas had no answer for Anderson as she
pounded the strike zone all night. Anderson pitched her ninth
shutout of the year to give her 40 for her career.
Rollins pushed the first run across the plate in the fourth inning
after Kaycie
Bevis drew a leadoff walk to give the Tars the first baserunner
of the inning. Bevis would move around to third after both Rachel
Almengual and Morgan
Frost laid down sacrifice bunts. Monica
Meadows collected the RBI as she singled to right field.
The second run of the game came in the sixth inning as Frost drew a
walk from pitcher Stepahnie Sfraga. Frost came around to score as
Almengual drove a double down the left field line.
Game two of the doubleheader saw senior Rachael
Foster toss a complete perfect game, as she was able to collect
15 strikeouts on the evening.
The offense came from Jamie
Rausch, Christine
Roser, and Morgan
Frost as they each collected one RBI.
Rollins came away with runs in the fourth and fifth inning as
Rausch scored the first run of the game as she reached on a single
to left field. Rausch came around to score as Morgan
Frost singled to score Rausch.
The fifth inning saw the Tars post two more runs to put them ahead
comfortably. Kristina
Holland drew a walk to get aboard and then she stole second
base. Holland came around to score as Christine
Roser tripled to right center field. Roser then came home to
score as Jamie
Rausch singled to the pitcher to move the final tally to
3-0.
The Tars return to the diamond Friday, March 20 for doubleheader
action against the Merrimack Warriors starting at 5 p.m. from Lake
Island Park.
