WINTER PARK, FLA. (March 20, 2009)- The tandem
of Nicole
Anderson and Rachael
Foster shutdown the Warriors of Merrimack College, Friday night
in doubleheader action by scores of 2-0 and 5-0. With the pair of
wins the Tars improve to 28-4 (3-3) on the season.
Anderson started right where she left off last night as she
recorded another 16 strikeouts to tie the record for the second
time in as many days. Anderson improved her record to 14-3 on the
season and now has 177 strikeouts for the season.
Offensively the Tars posted two runs, which was all they needed
to secure the victory Friday evening. Amber
Pederson led the Tars as she went 2-for-2 and collected one RBI
in the fourth inning. Roser came around to score as she would
advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Missy
Thogmartin. Roser then moved to third on a Jamie
Rausch single as both advanced on the throw.
Merrimack College could not threaten as they had a difficult time
figuring Anderson out, as she kept them guessing all night
long.
Game two of the doubleheader saw senior Rachael
Foster toss a complete shutout and collected 10 strikeouts on
the evening.
The offense came from Jamie
Rausch as she went 1-for-3 and collected two RBIs for the Tars.
Also picking up RBIs were Christine
Roser, Rachel
Almengual, and Kristina
Holland.
Rollins came away with runs in the first, fourth and fifth
inning to secure a 5-0 victory.
The Tars return to the diamond Monday, March 23 for doubleheader
action against the Augustana starting at 6 p.m. from Lake Island
Park.
