WINTER PARK, FLA. (March 23, 2009)-
The pitching combination of Nicole
Anderson and Rachael
Foster combined to capture another two wins for the Tars as
they downed Augustana 1-0 and 3-2, Monday evening. With the pair of
wins the Rollins College softball team improves their record to
30-4 overall and 3-3 in conference.
Game one of the doubleheader saw Anderson continue her quest for
the conference record of strikeouts, as she sat down 15 batters on
strikes. Anderson went seven strong innings as she allowed one hit
and hit one batter. With the win Anderson moves to 15-3 on the
season and looks to best her record from last year.
Offensively the Tars could only muster one run, but that would be
all they needed as Anderson pitched lights out. The only run of the
game came on a Kristina
Holland homerun to left field in the bottom of the sixth
inning. Anderson came in the seventh and sat down the Vikings to
end the game.
Game two of the doubleheader saw a few more runs posted on the
board as the Tars finally came away with the 3-2 win. Augustana
struck first on the scoreboard as Britt Stewart homered to center
field to give the Vikings the early 1-0 lead. The second inning saw
Augustana post another run this time courtesy of Taylor Kapsch.
Kapsch reached base on a double and would move to third on a
sacrifice bunt Erika Wolner. Ally Rutherford claimed the second RBI
of the game for the Vikings as she singled to bring home
Kapsch.
The Tars were held scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rachel
Almengual started things off for the Tars as she homered to
left field to get Rollins their first run of the game. The Tars put
another runner on as Morgan
Frost reached on a walk and was lifted in favor of the pinch
runner Kaycie
Bevis. The next play saw Bevis move to second on a wild pitch
by Britt Stewart. Monica
Meadows then singled up the middle moving Bevis to third and
giving the Tars two runners. Kristina
Holland collected the RBI as she grounded out to second base
for the second out of the inning. Stewart got out of the inning,
but the damage was already done as Rollins tied the game up.
Rollins posted the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning
as Jamie
Rausch reached with a single. The inning saw the Tars load the
bases for Morgan
Frost and she delivered the RBI as she grounded out to the
shortstop, but not before Rausch scored the winning run.
The top of the seventh saw Foster sit the Vikings down in order to
collect her 12th win of the season. Foster drops her ERA to 0.70 on
the season, as she has allowed eight earned runs over 80 innings of
work.
The Tars return to the diamond Saturday, March 28 for a conference
matchup with Nova Southeastern.
