WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 18, 2009) With
an overall record of 4-1, the Rollins women's lacrosse team comes
in at No. 10 on the IWLCA/Under Armour Division II Coaches Poll for
the second straight week it was announced Wednesday. The ranking
and overall record set a new program high for the second-year team,
and while the remainder of the season will be challenging, the
outlook is positive for the young program.
Rollins picks up seven more points than last week for a total of
15, narrowly missing the No. 9 slot as they come in behind Gannon
University who grabbed 16 and dropped four points from last week's
poll.
After a 16-11 victory over Saint Michael's College Monday
evening, the Tars prepare to take to the field in their first ever
top-ten showdown tonight as they match up with the eighth-ranked
University of New Haven Chargers at 7:00 p.m. in Winter Park. The
Chargers ride the No. 8 spot for the second week in a row with an
overall record of 3-0 having defeated Holy Family 18-2, and
Northeast 10 opponents Merrimack College 20-7 and Franklin Pierce
25-11.
The Tars' only loss this season was a 19-3 defeat against then
No. 3 Adelphi University back on February 20. Since then, the
Panthers have climbed to No. 2 and have only allowed eight goals in
four games, with Rollins tallying three of them in their game last
month.
After tonight's top-ten showdown, the Tars will be back in
action on Friday, March 20, when they take on Northeast 10 opponent
Franklin Pierce University in a 7:00 p.m. home game. For all of
