Tars Sweep Four Games from Thorobreds

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 11, 2009) – Rollins collected two more wins Wednesday afternoon, as they beat Kentucky St. 13-0 and 13-2, in Winter Park. The Tars move to 23-2 on the season, while the Thorobreds fall to 4-10. Rollins had Kentucky State's number as they combined to outscore the Thorobreds 49-4 in the four game series.

The series belonged to Christine Roser as she combined to go 5-for-5 with 12 RBI's in the two games today. Four out of the five hits for Roser were homeruns as she now leads the team with nine of the season. Missy Thogmartin and Vanessa Volkema each collected three RBI's, while they combined to go 2-for-5. Amber Pederson also had a big day as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Freshmen Kaycie Bevis went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Rollins had no problem with the offense all tournament long as the Tars scored 61 runs, while only giving up six. Defensively the Tars were up to the challenge as they only committed one error and allowed three earned runs.

In game one Christine Roser collected six RBI's on three hits, two of them were homeruns. Amber Pederson chipped in with two RBI's of her own, as she went 1-for-1 on the day. Designated player Vanessa Volkema had a big day going 1-for-3 with three RBI's. To round out the scoring for Rollins, freshmen Molly Rooney and senior Jamie Rausch each collected one RBI to give the Tars 13 runs, tying their season high for runs scored.

The Tars jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning as Rollins collected five hits to score five runs. The second inning saw Rollins post two more runs as Christine Roser hit her first two run home run of the day. Rollins capped off the scoring in the fourth inning as Christine Roser hit her second homerun of the game, as she collected three RBI's on the play. The game ended as Nicole Anderson sat down the Thorobreds in the top half of the fifth inning

Nicole Anderson collected her 11th win of the season, as she went five innings. Anderson allowed two hits, zero runs, and punched out seven Thorobreds. With the dominating performance Anderson lowers her ERA to 0.72 for the season and now has 127 strikeouts in 77 and two thirds innings of work.

The second game saw Monica Meadows step in the circle for the Tars and deliver in a big way. Meadows led the Tars to a 13-2 win behind her five innings of work allowing four hits, two runs, and six strikeouts. Meadows improves to 3-0 on the season, while earning a 0.92 ERA.

Christine Roser provided a huge offensive lift for the Tars, as she went 2-for-2 with six RBI's. Freshmen Kaycie Bevis went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored. Missy Thogmartin assumed the catching duties in game two and along with her stellar play behind the plate went 1-for-2 with three RBI's. Rachel Almengual and Monica Meadows also added in an RBI each to give the Tars their 13 runs. The story of the day was Christine Roser as her first two at bats of the game yielded two three run homeruns for her.

The Tars will step back into conference play as they face Florida Southern at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Fans be sure to come check out the game from Lake Island Park as the Tars look to improve their conference record against the Moccasins.
