WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2009) - After
scoring four goals in the second half to help the Tars rally from
behind to win 15-13 in overtime over then No. 7 Gannon, junior
midfielder Marissa
Giannerini has been recognized as this week's Division II
Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week it was announced
Tuesday.
The Tars' co-captain shot on goal 64 percent, grabbing two
ground balls, two draw controls, and causing two turnovers to help
the Tars overcome nationally ranked Gannon and pull in their second
win of the season.
After a halftime score of 5-5, the Tars slipped behind Gannon
8-5 as the Golden Knights came out of the break firing on all
pistons. But Giannerini played a vital role in igniting the Tars
as she fired off two goals in 15 seconds to pull Rollins back to
within one, followed by back-to-back points six minutes later to
help the Tars pull ahead to their third lead of the game.
The Baltimore, Md. native leads the Tars in goals with 11, and
is second on the team in ground balls with 18.
The Rollins women's lacrosse team will be back in action on
Monday, March 16, when they take to the field against Saint
Michael's in a 7:00 p.m. showdown in Winter Park. For all of the
