SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 10, 2009) – A 2-1
lead after doubles play proved to be the difference as the 11th
ranked Rollins women's tennis team defeated 14th ranked UC San
Diego 5-4 to complete the Tars spring break trip.
Rollins improves to 11-0 on the season while dropping the
Tritons to 9-2.
Margaret
Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale were topped in the No. 1 doubles match 8-4 by Ina Dan
and Taskeen Bains, but Rollins would take the next to and grab the
lead heading into singles.
Roshni
Luthra and Holly
Fleming teamed to take Valarie Tang and Tessa Tran 8-2 in the
No. 2 match with Allie
Steele and Stefaniya
Tkach downing Anita Athavale And Katie Mulloy 8-2 at No. 3.
Fleming was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 winner in the No. 2 singles match
with Tkach downing Athavale 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and Junker taking
Tang 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 4 slot.
Rollins will return to Winter Park on host Savannah College of
Art and Design on Wednesday, Mar. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
