WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 18, 2009) –
Rollins was down after doubles play, but rode a solid singles
performance to a 5-4 victory over Savannah College of Art &
Design Wednesday night.
Rollins, ranked No. 11 NCAA Division II, moves to 12-0 on the
season while SCAD, ranked No. 5 NAIA falls to 7-1.
The top doubles match was a battle of ranked teams with the
Tars' Margaret
Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale ranked 15th in Division II and the Bees' Irina
Pljusznyin and Hillary Collins slated No. 3 NAIA. The duo from SCAD
came out on top 8-3 in the match to hand the Tars top seeded
doubles team just their fourth loss of the year.
Stephanie Gula and Charlotte Debrey teamed to take Allie
Steele and Stefaniya
Tkach 8-6 in the No. 3 match with Rollins scoring a point at
No. 2 as Roshni
Luthra and Holly
Fleming downed Romina Mrochen and Courtney Collins 8-6.
Facing a deficit heading into singles play for the first time
all season, the Tars responded in a big way, taking four of the six
matches to secure the win.
Luthra picked up her sixth win of the year in the No. 1 slot
with an upset victory over 10th ranked Pljusznyin 7-5, 6-2. Tkach
scored a 7-6(4), 6-3 win over 20th ranked Mrochen in the No. 3 slot
with Junker blanking Courtney Collins 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Ragsdale
won the No. 6 singles match for the Tars, downing Debrey 6-4,
6-4.
The undefeated Tars will be back in action on Thursday, Mar. 19,
hosting Long Island at 3:30 p.m.
