TAMPA, Fla. (February 7, 2009) - Nick Wolf notched his 19th game of his
sophomore year with ten or more points, and grabbed his ninth
double-double of the season as he led both teams with 19 points, 16
rebounds against Tampa Saturday afternoon. Despite the Tars' best
efforts, Rollins was defeated by the Spartans 72-56.
With the loss, Rollins drops to 16-6, 8-3 in Sunshine State
Conference play, while the Spartans advance to 12-7, 5-4 in
conference action.
Wolf matched a career high in rebounds as he grabbed 13
defensive and 3 offensive boards to help the Tars throughout both
halves. The sophomore guard walked away from the afternoon after
shooting 58 percent (7-12) from the field and 50 percent from long
range (3-6).
The Spartans silenced Rollins in every area of the court,
leading in field goals 38 to 31 percent, 3-pointers 29 to 27
percent, and crushing the Tars from the charity stripe 73 to 55
percent.
Rollins came out with as much gusto as Tampa as the first half
saw six lead changes and the score tied twice. By the half, Tampa
led by six after a last-second trey from Rashad Callaway helped
pull the Spartans ahead with a score of 32-26.
The Spartans carried their last-second momentum into the second
half, as they dashed out to as much as a 19-point lead throughout
the final period. While the Tars led the second half in points off
of the bench 14-11, Tampa found more success in points in the paint
10-8, points off of turnovers 9-4, and second-chance points 4-2.
Tampa out-scored the Tars 40-30 in the second half, leaving the
Tars unable to pick-up speed in order to gain their second victory
of the season over their conference foe.
The Rollins men's basketball team will be back in action in the
second part of a double-header on Wednesday, February 11, when they
take on Florida Tech at 7:30 p.m. at home in Warden Arena. Fans
