The Rollins men's basketball team welcomes the Florida Tech
Panthers to Warden Arena for a Sunshine State Conference
showdown.
Today's 75th meeting between the schools, the Tars hold the
all-time advantage, 52-22 and have captured the last seven games.
Rollins has swept FIT the last three seasons with Florida Tech's
last victory occurring Feb. 23, 2005 in an overtime win at Warden
Arena.
The teams bring in two highly touted offenses as the Tars are
second in the conference with an 80.0 ppg average, while Florida
Tech hails in third with an average of 77.3. Rollins leads the
conference in field goal percentage (.486) and three-point
percentage (.393), while Tech owns the conference's top spot in
free throws (.748).
Leading the way for Rollins is Nick Wolf and his team-high 17.6 ppg
average and 8.9 rpg. Senior Kevin Hogan trails with 320 points
this season (14.5 ppg) to increase his career total to 1,203 to
place himself 24th on the Tars' all-time scoring list. He also
owns sole possession of second place in 3-pointers made with 256,
18 behind the leader Daniel Parke (1994-97).
In the first contest of the season between Tech and Rollins, the
Tars cruised past the Panthers, 99-79 as Hogan led the team with 25
points as he scorched the net with six 3-pointers. Wolf chipped in
20, while freshman Julian Wilkison scored a career-high 13 points
off the bench.
Women's Basketball AT A GLANCE...
Tonight the Tars look to rebound after losing on the road against
conference rival Tampa Spartans on Saturday. Rollins came away with
a loss after struggling from the field and losing, 71-48. Rollins
looks to get back to their winning ways as they welcome conference
foe Florida Tech to Warden Arena. The last time these two met,
Rollins survived with a one point victory over the Panthers. The
contest saw both teams struggle from the field as neither of them
shot over 25 percent. The game came down to free-throw shooting
contest, with the Tars prevailing.
Tonight is the 53rd meeting between these two teams with the Tars
taking 34 of those contests.
The Tars look to get another important conference win to improve
their lead over second place Eckerd. Rollins has been in front all
year long as they started off winning 14 games in a row. Since then
the Tars have gone 4-2 in the month of January, and started out
February 1-1.
Head Coach Glenn Wilkes and Tom Klusman own 1,023 wins between the
two of them. The two rank third in total wins and are the fourth
active duo to have over a 1,000 wins. Glenn Wilkes, Jr. and his
father Glenn Wilkes, former Stetson men's coach, are the only
father-son coaching duo with more than 500 wins apiece.
No. 21 Rollins falls three spots as the Tars suffered their third
conference loss to Tampa. The Rollins men and women have combined
to earn 34 wins, which is good for 11th in Division II basketball.
Both teams have a combined winning percentage of .791.
The Tars offense struggled against Tampa as the Tars shot 30
percent from the field for the game. The Spartans were able to
shoot 46 percent from the field, which allowed them to build a big
lead that the Tars couldn't overcome. Tampa's ability to shoot from
long range was the deciding factor in the game. The Spartans
hovered around 50 percent from behind the arc the whole game.
Ines Teuma is the Tars leading scorer this season is averaging 11.3
ppg and pulling down 8.5 rpg. Jessica Pressley continues her
outside shooting to compliment the post play of Teuma. Pressley is
hitting on 43 percent of her shots from behind the arc, and is
averaging 10.4 ppg.
The Tars continue to dominate teams in scoring, as they outscore
opponents by an average of 12.5 ppg and are also outrebounding
teams by an average of 9.0 rpg. The Tars continue their streak of
outrebounding opponents this season to 20 games.
