MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (February 21, 2009)
Rollins, one of the nation's top 3-point shooting teams,
struggled from long range Saturday as the Tars fell to Barry 78-56
in a key Sunshine State Conference clash.
Nick
Wolf led three Tars in double figures with 14 points and nine
rebounds. Craig
Reichel and Zach
Pancratz each added 13 points for the Tars (18-8, 10-5
SSC).
Karega Tucker led Barry (11-14, 6-8 SSC) with a game high 23 points
and eight rebounds. Zach Trapp netted 18 points and Erick Nsangou
added 14.
Rollins shot 34 percent (19-56) from the floor, but was just
9-of-37 (24 percent) from beyond the arc after coming into the game
hitting nearly 39 percent from distance. Barry was sharp from the
floor, shooting 52 percent (26-of-50) while also out rebounding the
Tars 32-30.
The first half was tightly contested as the Tars led 12-11 after
the first nine minutes, behind two 3-pointers from Pancratz and one
from Wolf. Rollins would go up by as much as four with under seven
minutes left in the period, but the Bucs outscored their visitors
16-6 the rest of the frame to take a 31-25 lead into
intermission.
Barry came out of the gate firing in the second half while the Tars
searched for their touch as a 3-pointer barrage from Trapp and
Tucker pushed Barry's lead to 22, 59-37 halfway through the period.
Rollins chipped away at the advantage and a Reichel 3-pointer at
the three minute mark cut the Bucs lead to 10, 64-54, but that
would be as close as the Tars would get the rest of the night.
Rollins will take the next six days off before traveling to Eckerd
for their regular season finale. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. in
St. Petersburg. Fans can catch all the action live on the Citizens
Bank of Florida Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
