Winter Park, Fla. (September 5, 2008)- The Tars
remained perfect on the young season with a 3-1 win over South
Region rival Montevallo on Friday evening. The Tars improved to 3-0
on the year and look ahead to a tough road game against West
Florida next week.
The Tars fell behind early in the contest giving up a goal to
Denise Mannion, which was perfectly placed shot over the Tars
keeper, Michelle Dillingham's head. The Tars then struck quickly to
tie things up with Chelsea Brady gathering up a Lindsay Giblin shot
that was saved and then put it by the keeper. Ten minutes later the
Tars added another one, this time from Rachel Jakubowski and with
Chelsea Brady on the assist. At halftime the Tars had built a 2-1
lead.
Coming into the second half the Tars defense stepped up, only
allowing three shots making it easy on keeper Michelle Dillingham.
In the 79th minute the Tars added a cushion with Charlotte Murrell
placing a nice ball past the keeper. Again Lindsay Giblin was on
the assist along with Meagan Thomas. From then on the Tars were
able to control the ball, which allowed them to keep Montevallo off
the attack.
Dillingham scored the win, while grabbing one save and allowing
one goal. The Tars outshot the Falcons 20-6, getting off 12 shots
in the second half.
In the end the Tars were able to move on and preserve the perfect
record and will look to keep the momentum gained from these first
three home games into Pensacola on September 5 at 6 p.m.
