PENSACOLA. Fla. (September 12, 2008) The
No. 14 ranked Rollins women's soccer team battled it out with the
No. 5 West Florida Argonauts on Friday night to a scoreless tie in
a regional showdown match. With solid play from both teams, the
Tars continue their season with a 3-0-1 record, while the Argos
move on with a mark of 4-0-1.
It was anyone's game with both teams entering into the match
undefeated. After jumping up in the ranks to No. 14 this week the
Tars came out strong, looking to avenge a 1-0 overtime loss to the
Argos from last season. But the Lady Argonauts would not let the
Tars walk away with an upset, holding back Rollins in two regular
halves as well as two overtime periods. The West Florida women
were able to keep their streak alive with today's final result, and
have yet to let a team score on them in five games.
Three Tars were able to fire five shots throughout the night,
finding two shots on goal. Senior forward Lindsay
Giblin and freshman Ashley
Waplinger found two shots apiece, with junior midfielder Joy
Powell able to get one shot on goal. The Argos walked away
with 18 shots and five shots on goal. West Florida dominated the
Tars in corner kicks 14-1, but overall play was evenly balanced in
all ends of the field for the full 110 minutes.
The Rollins women's soccer team will be back in action on
Sunday, September 14, when they travel to Thomas University for
more double-header action. Kickoff is slated for noontime, with
the men's game immediately following at 2:30 p.m.
