ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 5, 2008) - The No.
9 Tars dropped their No. 1 singles match en route to an 8-1 road
victory over the Eckerd College Tritons. The win brings Rollins to
a 13-4 overall record and 2-2 in the SSC. Eckerd drops to 2-11 and
1-5 in conference.
The Tars rolled in doubles play as 13th-ranked Brian Compton and
Jonathan Gomez thrashed Hisashi Sato and Colton Jacobs 8-1 in the
No. 1. Austin Duvall and Adrian Tan won their first match as a duo
by defeating Alex McDonald and Breen Eitel 8-5 in the second seed.
Hans Ryan Hackenbruch and Bill Rockwood got their first team
victory as they throttled William Holt Weeks and Spencer Weiss 8-6
in the No. 3.
No. 15 Compton lost his second straigt match as he fell to
Hisashi Sato 6-7, 6-2 (10-7) in the top spot. No. 50 Gomez had an
easy win over Jacobs 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2, while Tan only dropped
one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win against McDonald in the third
spot. Rockwood rallied past Walker 6-7, 6-4 (10-3) in the No. 4, as
Will Thwaites remained 2-0 on the season with his victory over
Weeks 7-5, 6-3 in the fifth position. Hackenbruch got his first
singles win as a Tar by blanking Weiss 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6.
The Tars will be back in action on Tuesday, April 8 when they
take on the Embry Riddle Eagles at 3:30 p.m.
