WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 4, 2008) - Monica
Meadows and Jamie Rausch each hit a three-run homer, proving to be
the difference makers as the Rollins softball team defeated the
Nova Southeastern Sharks 7-2 on Friday evening at Lake Island Park.
The win brings Rollins to a 25-9 overall record and 4-3 in the SSC.
With the loss, the Sharks fall to 34-13 and 5-2 in conference
play.
The Sharks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Brooke Mitchell drove in Rachel Talenfeld with an RBI single to
left. Thunder, lightning and pouring rains came in the bottom of
the first and resulted in a 47 minute weather delay.
When play resumed, Rollins took a 3-1 lead when Meadows hit a
three-run homer after two walks by Shark's starter Dani Caron. The
Tars would extend their lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the third as
Rausch hit another three-run homer to the opposite field.
Nova Southeastern'scored a run in the top of the fifth when
reliever Lexi Sarradet scored Brittney Lamb with an RBI groundout.
The Tars got the run back in the bottom of the inning when
Christine Roser scored after a throwing error, widening Rollins'
final lead to 7-2.
Nicole Anderson (14-3) earned the complete game victory,
striking out five and allowing one earned run on four hits.
Caron (13-6) took the loss, going just two innings, pitching
into the third inning, allowing six runs on five hits while
Sarradet pitched four innings in relief and allowed one run and one
hit while striking out three and walking three.
The Tars will return to action on Saturday, April 5 as they face
the Sharks in an SSC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for
1:00 p.m.
