WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2008) ' Seven Tars
would place the ball in the cage on the way to an 18-8 victory over
the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College Friday afternoon at Showalter
Field in Winter Park, Fla.' The win advances the Tars to 3-3, while
the Bobcats remain winless in their season with an overall record
of 0-6.
Junior attacker Annie Harris headed-up the Tars with four goals
and one assist.' Nipping at Harris' heels were freshmen Kate Pray,
Liz Connelly, and Courtney Bianculli, who each tallied hat tricks,
with Connelly adding three assists to her goal count, and Bianculli
recording one.' Bianculli also had a huge day on defense as she
caused nine turnovers for the Tars, and collected 11 ground
balls.
Freshmen Lacy Goodwyn and Katy Tyszko followed behind the
hat-trick-trio scoring two goals each, with Tyszko adding an
assist.' Rounding out the score for Rollins was Katie Hubbell who
netted her goal midway through the first half.' Junior goalie Lisa
Weber had a fantastic game guarding the net for the Tars as she
collected seven saves for the afternoon.
The Bobcats of Lees-McRae College saw a lot of action from
freshman midfielder Desiree Cox as she tallied four goals, shooting
a perfect 2-2 on free position shots from the 8-meter.' Cox would
also lead the Bobcats with three caused turnovers, one coming from
an interception in the first half.
Sophomore Abby White added two to Cox's four, and Cloe Klaus and
Ellie Psillas scored one each to round-out the Bobcat goal count at
eight.' Klaus made a big impact defensively as she led the team
with five ground balls and collected four draw controls.' Making a
statement in the Bobcat cage was senior Olivia Maurey who
registered 13 saves.
The Tars jumped to a three goal lead at the start of the game,
but with a goal from Cox the Bobcats were up and running with 19:32
left in the first period.' A six goal Rollins streak would leave
Lees-McRae in an eight goal deficit, and even though the Bobcats
out shot the Tars 4-2 with 11 minutes to go in the first half, the
Rollins women's lacrosse team was still leading 11-5 as the game
resumed in second half action.
Rollins would net seven more goals in the second half before the
Bobcats could answer back with their final three.' A strong Rollins
defensive squad held Lees-McRae at bay, and shut down the wavering
team in all areas of the field.
The women will be taking on the Warriors of East Stroudsburg
University this Sunday, March 9.' The game is set to begin at 3:00
p.m.
