WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 30, 2008) ' The Rollins baseball team gave up 10 runs in the first inning of Game One in a doubleheader against Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Stadium, and the Tars could not recover, falling 17-4 and losing the nightcap 5-1.' Rollins fell to 22-13-1 overall and 4-7 in SSC play with the two losses, while the Moccasins leave with the series victory and now stand at 16-19, 5-7.

Florida Southern used 15 batters in the 10-run first inning in Game One and batted around again in the sixth, scoring six more.' Sophomore left-hander Danny Clark (2-1) was charged with the loss, not able to escape the first inning while allowing seven runs, four earned, and retiring only the first batter of the game.' Florida Southern scored four more off sophomore reliever Matt White in his three and two thirds innings of work.' Freshman right-hander Steven Ortman gave up five in one and one third innings, and sophomore right-hander Michael Prusak escaped the final three and two thirds inning with just one run allowed.

Rollins scored three of its four Game One runs in the bottom of the first, the first of which came home on an RBI single by senior left fielder Mike Crane.' Junior designated hitter Bryan Bennett drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly, and junior right fielder Jesse More singled home the third.' The Tars' only other run in Game One would come in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by senior center fielder Corey Whiting.

Moccasins starter Brad Davidson (3-4) earned the win in Game One, lasting seven innings while allowing four runs, three earned.' Reliever Ryan Koch allowed one hit in two scoreless innings to finish the game.' Shortstop Robbie Shields (3-4, homerun, two doubles, two runs, four RBI) did the most damage at the plate for Florida Southern, and right fielder Will Cherry (4-6, three doubles, two runs, three RBI), second baseman Wade Kirkland (3-5, double, three runs, three RBI), and third baseman Arden McWilliams (3-5, three runs, four RBI) also were productive in Game One.' Cherry's three doubles tied his own Florida Southern record for doubles in a single game.

Game Two was a closer contest, but Florida Southern left fielder Brian Schultz powered the Moccasins to victory with two opposite field homeruns.' Schultz's first long ball, a two-run blast to left field in the fourth inning, gave Florida Southern their first lead at 2-1.' His second was a solo shot to lead off the top of the sixth, extending the Moccasins' lead to 3-1.' Shultz finished the day 3-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Sophomore right-hander Marc Hewett (4-4) gave up five runs for the Tars in the losing effort, lasting six and one third innings with 10 hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.' Sophomore reliever Robbie Pagano finished the final two thirds of an inning without allowing a baserunner.

The Tars' lone run in Game Two came in the bottom of the first on a second RBI single by Crane.' Whiting finished with a solid day at the plate, hitting 2-5 in the two games.' Crane was 2-7 with two RBI, and sophomore shortstop Ryan Luker was 2-7 with two runs scored.
