WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2008) - The
9th-ranked Rollins men's tennis team took their fourth straight
match as they went on to defeat Western New Mexico University 9-0
at the Tiedke Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.
The Tars coasted in double action as 13th-ranked Brian Compton
and Jonathan Gomez took out Rafael Catay and Valu Fa 8-2. Austin
Duvall and Bill Rockwood breezed by Wilton Atkins and Francisco
Periera 8-2 in the No. 2, while Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo
blanked Emmanuel Hecher and Luke Salazar 8-0 in the third
position.
All six seeds won their matches in straight sets as Compton led
things off with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Catay in the No. 1, while
Tan rolled against Periera 6-1, 6-2 in the second spot. Carvalho
made easy work of Atkins 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 and Seijo overcame
Fa 7-6, 6-2 in the fourth seed. Duvall won his second match at the
No. 5 by defeating Salazar 6-1, 6-3 and Albin Hubscher rounded out
the points with a win over Wilton 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth slot.
Rollins (11-3) will be back in action tomorrow, March 25 when
they host Mercy College at 2:30 p.m.
