OCOEE, Fla. (March 21, 2008) ' A day after
handing Florida Southern their first ever conference sweep, Rollins
kept up the pace and swept past St. Michael's in a doubleheader,
winning 6-1 and 10-0 in five innings. Rollins is riding a five game
winning streak and is now 20-9 on the year.
Christine Roster swung the big bat for Rollins, going 6-7 with
two doubles, one homer and four RBI. Missy Thogmartin and Ingrid
Schumacher each batted 5-7 with Thogmartin batting in four and
Schumacher batting in four runs.
Nicole Anderson picked up the game one victory, scattering four
hits and allowing one unearned run with nine strikeouts. Rachael
Foster was the game two winner, allowing two this in three innings
with Schumacher throwing the final two frames and giving up two
hits.
In the opener, St. Michael's jumped ahead in the first, taking
advantage of a two out Rollins error. The Tars tied it up in the
fourth as Thogmartin led off with a double, moved to third in a
wild pitch and scored after a Monica Meadows single.
The Tars pulled away in the fourth, scoring five runs on five
hits to take a 6-1 lead. Meadows rocked a bases loaded single that
scored Sheri Rabenold and Foster, followed by Roser double that
plated Meadows and Thogmartin. Schumacher doubled down the left
field line later in the frame to score Roser and make it 6-1.
In the second game, Rabenold walked to lead off and sparked a
four run Rollins inning. Thogmartin and Lauren Starcher both hit
RBI singles in the frame and Schumacher knocked in two with a two
out double to make it 4-0. Three more runs came in the Tars second
with Thogmartin, Schumacher and Meadows each knocking runs.
The Tars put up three more in the third, highlighted by Roser's
two RBI homer over the centerfield wall.
Rollins will travel North next weekend, taking on Albany State
and Benedict. Rollins will battle Albany State on Friday, March 28
at 1 p.m. then Benedict on Saturday March 29 at 2 p.m.
