ALBANY, Ga. (March 28, 2008) ' The Rollins
softball team rolled up their seventh straight win, downing Albany
State on the road Friday. Rollins took the first 5-3 and won the
night camp 13-1 in five innings.
Nicole Anderson picked up the victory in the opener, tossing all
seven innings and striking out 10 while allowing two runs. Rachael
Foster was the game two winner, scattering four hits and allowing
one unearned run with six strikeouts.
Senior Ingrid Schumacher went 6-8 with two RBI on the day to
lead a Rollins (22-9) line up that banged out 32 hits in the two
games. Missy Thogmartin batted 5-8 with an RBI and Jamie Rausch hit
3-7 and drove in five runs.
Rollins jumped ahead in the first as Sherri Rabenold led off
with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a Monica Meadows
single and then stole home. Thogmartin doubled in the Tars third
and eventually scored, followed by a Schumacher RBI single that
placed Lauren Starcher and put Rollins up 3-0. The hosts got on the
board in the third, but Rollins answered in the sixth with a Rausch
leadoff homer. The Rams cut the gap by another run in their half of
the sixth, but Rausch knocked in another in the top of the seventh
to make it 5-2.
The Tars kept up the torrid pace in game two, scoring runs in
bunches. RBI singles by Starcher and Schumacher and another Rausch
RBI put Rollins up 3-0 in the first. After a run in the Albany
State first, the Tars pulled away with a run in the second and four
in the third. Schumacher, Vanessa Volkema, Rabenold and Meadows
each had a double in the big inning for Rollins. The Tars then put
it away in the top of the fifth, racking up six hits and five
runs.
Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, March 29 when they
will travel to Benedict (S.C.) for a South Region doubleheader.
