WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2008) - Freshman
midfielder Peter Harvey scored three goals in just three minutes to
build some momentum in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to
pull the Tars out of a 17-5 loss to the Saint Leo University Lions
on Sunday afternoon. The Tars take the hit and sink to 1-4, while
the Lions pull in their second win of the season and advance to
2-1.
Harvey led the way for the Tars with his three goals, followed
by junior attackman Drew Bernstein and sophomore middie Chris
Gorman who added a goal each towards their final goal count.
Finding two assists for the day was junior attackman Andy Katz, who
threaded the needle for both Bernstein and Harvey.
Freshman goalie Zach Cole saw a big day in the cage, posting 17
saves, and finding his way to a caused turnover and an interception
for the Tars.
The Saint Leo Lions had eight different players tally goals,
with Benjamin Brigham heading up the team with five. Chris Storrie
was right on Brigham's heels posting four goals, and Ryan Pomponio
tallied an additional three for the Lions on their way to 17 goals
for the day.
The Tars got off to a late start as they remained scoreless in
the first quarter and found themselves behind by four as the second
quarter got underway. After an unassisted goal by Saint Leo's
Storrie, Katz fed the ball to Bernstein to get the Tars up on the
scoreboard 5-1. Saint Leo would outshoot the Tars in the remaining
seven and a half minutes 3-1, to end the half with a score of
8-2.
The Lions came out and posted the first goal of the third
quarter, but Harvey's three-goal streak would pull the Tars to
within four with just six minutes left in the third. Saint Leo
tallied one more goal to end the third quarter at 10-5, with the
Tars still buzzing from Harvey's three successful drives to the
cage. However, the team lost their momentum in the fourth quarter
as Saint Leo out-shot the Tars 7-0 and retained possession for the
majority of the period.
The Rollins College men's lacrosse team will be back in action
