WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 19, 2008) - The
7th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team rolled to their 12th
straight victory with a win over Washburn University. The Tars
improve to 12-0, while the Lady Blues fall to 6-2 overall.
Marnie Mahler and Roshni Luthra took out Amber Raindl and Diana
Goldsmith 8-6 in the No. 1, while Sonia Bernal and Margaret Junker
controlled Alicia Gardiner and Audrie Miller 8-3 in the second
seed. Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko gave the Tars the
3-0 doubles lead with their win over Erika Lucero and Rachel
Stevens 8-3 in the No. 3.
Rollins won all six singles bouts in straight sets as Mahler
defeated Goldsmith 7-6, 6-2, Bernal routed Raindl 7-6, 6-1 and
Shevchenko thrashed Miller 6-0, 6-4. Luthra won her match against
Gardiner 6-1, 6-2, while Junker blanked Stevens 6-0, 6-0 and
Frandji overwhelmed Lucero 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6.
The Tars will be back in action on Saturday, March 22 when they
travel to Fort Lauderdale to take on the Nova Southeastern Sharks
at 11:00 a.m.
