FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 23, 2008) - The
7th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team swept doubles play to go on
to defeat 9th-ranked Nova Southeastern 6-3 on Sunday afternoon. The
win brings the Tars' record to 13-0, 5-0, while the Sharks fall to
11-4, 4-2 on the season.
The duo of Marnie Mahler and Roshni Luthra defeated No. 9 Ulia
Talenko and Alexa Korotkevich 9-8 in the top match, while Sonia
Bernal and Margaret Junker stayed at a perfect 13-0 with their win
over Tsippy Waterman and Adrienne Duenas 8-4 in the No. 2. Third
seeds Edita Kulichova and Mary Crider defaulted their match to
Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko.
The Sharks top three singles players battled to defeat the Tars
as Mahler fell to No. 26 Talenko 6-1, 6-1, Bernal had a tough time
against Waterman 6-2, 6-2 and No. 40 Korotkevich overcame
Shevchenko 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in the No. 3. Luthra got the Tars back on
top with her win over Kulichova 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in the fourth
position, while Junker blanked Duenas 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5.
Frandji took a straight set win over Elena Vahl 6-3, 6-0 to give
Rollins their 13th consecutive victory.
The Tars will be back in action today, March 24 when they take
on Western New Mexico at 3:30 p.m.
