WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2008) - Rolling in
their singles and doubles matches, the Rollins women's tennis team
picked up their 14th consecutive win as they went on to defeat
Western New Mexico University 9-0. The win brings the Tars to a
perfect 14-0, while the loss drops Western New Mexico to 2-7 on the
season.
Playing their first match at the No. 1 spot, Sonia Bernal and
Margaret Junker defeated Emily Lampman and Stephanie Shelton 8-1.
Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko got their first win at the
No. 2 with a win over Christina Kolb and Izelle Oliver 8-6. Playing
their first match together, Sydni Katz and Allie Steele were
victorious over Elisa Owen and Madison Bruton 8-0 at the third
seed.
In the top spot, Bernal coasted against Oliver 6-1, 6-2 as
Luthra won against Lampman 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2. Junker blanked
Shelton 6-0, 6-0 in the third slot, while Frandji lost only one
game against Kolb 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4. Katz breezed by Owen 6-3,
6-0 and Steele won her second singles match of the season by
defeating Bruton 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6.
The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday, March 26 when they
take on Loughborough University-UK in a scrimmage at 3:30 p.m.
