7th-Ranked Tars Make Easy Work of West Virginia State

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 27, 2008) - In their 15th consecutive victory, the 7th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team rolled past the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets 9-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.

All three doubles tandems had easy wins over their respective opponents. Marnie Mahler and Roshni Luthra scored an 8-1 win over Anna Baronayte and Teddi Russell in the top seed as Sonia Bernal and Margaret Junker remain at 15-0 on the season with their rout of Erica Blakely and Emily Bowlin 8-2 in the No. 2. Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko completed the sweep by trouncing Eben Russell and Meghan Stewart 8-1 in the third position.

Each singles match was completed without dropping a set to the Yellow Jackets. In the No. 1., Mahler defeated Baronayte 6-4, 6-2 as Bernal sailed by Russell 6-1, 6-0 in the second seed. Shevchenko won her match against Blakely 6-1, 6-2 in the third slot, while Luthra blanked Bowlin 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4. Junker stayed at a perfect 14-0 with her victory over Russell 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 and Frandji cruised past Stewart 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth seed.

The Tars (15-0, 5-0) will be back in action on Saturday, March 29 when they take on conference rival 3rd-ranked Lynn University (15-2, 6-0) at 10:30 a.m.
