ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 1, 2008) - The
Rollins College Tars fell to the Eckerd Tritons 66-64 as Damone
Morris hit a half court shot at the buzzer to shock the Tars on
Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.' Just seconds before,
the Craig Reichel gave Rollins a one point lead with a three
pointer with three seconds to go.' Rollins drops to 19-8 overall
and 8-8 in SSC play, while the Tritons improve to 19-8, 11-5.
The Tars had four players in double figures led by Craig Reichel
and Kevin Hogan with 15 points. Jonny Reibel had 12 points and Nick
Wolf chipped in 11 for the Tars.
Eckerd was led by Josh King with 16 points. Lewis Lampley had 11
for the Tritons. Damone Morris had 12 including the game winner at
the buzzer.'
The Tars came out of the gate quickly and had a 6-2 lead early,
the Tritons would catch the Tars and tie the game at 15 about
midway thru the first half. Eckerd would take a three point lead at
33-30 as Reichel would hit a three to tie the game at 33-33 at the
halftime buzzer.'
The game would go back and forth in the second half and it would
come down to the wire. Hogan would have a big second half for the
Tars, totally nine points.
The Tritons biggest lead would be six at 45-39 with 13:26 to
play on a Josh King free throw.
The Tars were 21 of 49 from the field (43%) while the Tritons
were 26-62 (42%). Rollins was 12 of 29 from beyond the arc while
the Tars were 8 of 16 from long range.' The Tars went 10 of 18 from
the foul line while the Tritons were 6 of 9.' Eckerd out-rebounded
Rollins 39-31.'
The Tars (19-8, 8-8) will be back in action Tuesday, March 4 in
the opening round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
Their opponent is yet to be determined.
