Tars Win Fourth Straight Decision With Victory Over Lions

SAINT LEO, Fla. (February 28, 2008) ' The 10th-ranked Rollins men's tennis team ran past the Saint Leo Lions 9-0 on Thursday afternoon. The win brings the Tars' record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in SSC play, while the Lions fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Rollins took at three doubles bouts easily as 13th-ranked Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez picked up their fifth consecutive win by defeating Brandon Stacey and Saif Noorsumar 8-5 in the No. 1. Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo remain undefeated on the season by taking out Pablo Chavez and David Farinez 8-3 in the second seed. Senior Albin Hubscher paired with Austin Duvall in their first doubles match to beat Michael DelPriore and Diego Timeteo 8-1 in the third position.

Compton was the only Tar to drop a set against a Lion as he went on to defeat Chavez 2-6, 6-4 (10-3) in the top spot, while 48th-ranked Jonathan Gomez had an easy victory over Stacey 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 2. Seijo cruised by Noorsumar 6-1, 6-2 in the third seed and Duvall won at the No. 4 seed against Farinez 6-2, 6-1. Playing in his first singles match of the '08 season, Hubscher rolled against DelPriore 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth seed, while Bill Rockwood rounded out the scoring by tallying a win over Sheets 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6.

The Tars will be back in action on Saturday, March 1 when they host the Barry University Buccaneers (6-0, 3-1) at noon.
