WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 1, 2008) ' Winning
only two singles contests, the No. 10 Rollins men's tennis team
fell to No. 7 Barry University 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the
Bert Martin Tennis Complex. Rollins falls to 4-1, 1-1 on the season
as the Bucs improve to 7-1, 4-0.
The Buccaneers took at three doubles matches as Ales Svigelj and
Patrick Rittenauer routed 13th-ranked Brian Compton and Jonathan
Gomez 8-5 in the top spot. Jakub Fejfar and Emmanuel Fraitzl ran
past Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo 8-5 in the No.2 while Andrew
Sharnov and Roman Werschel made easy work of Adrian Tan and Bill
Rockwood in the third seed.
The top two Rollins positions won at singles as 45th-ranked
Compton outlasted Svigelj 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the No. 1 position and
48th-ranked Gomez took out Werschel 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 in the No. 2.
Rollins dropped the remaining singles bouts as No. 12 Rittenauer
defeated Tan 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the third match and No. 43 overcame
Seijo in the fourth seed 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Fejfar battled by Carvalho
6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 5 match, while Manuel Lauter beat Austin
Duvall in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
The Tars will be back in action on Tuesday, March 4 when they
host Concordia College (N.Y.) at 2:00 p.m.
