WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2008) ' After two
matches that were called to due rain, the No. 10 Tars finally
completed a match and picked up a win over Grand Valley State 8-1
on Friday afternoon at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex. The victory
brings Rollins' overall record to 5-2.
The Tars collected all three doubles matches as 13th-ranked
Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez led the way with an 8-0 win over
Tony Dang and Brock Plangger in the top seed. Pablo Seijo and
Gustavo Carvalho defeated Renato Tamashiro and Patrick Troy 8-5 in
the No. 2, while Adrian Tan and Bill Rockwood overcame Alex Switzer
and Matt Globerson 8-5 in the third position.
The top five seeds won their matches as No. 45 Compton ran past
Dang 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 as 48th-ranked Gomez gathered a win over
Tamashiro 6-4, 6-3 in the second slot. Tan rolled past Troy 6-2,
6-3, while Carvalho rallied past Philipp Claus 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 in
the No. 4. Seijo also had to battle as he defeated Switzer 6-1,
1-6, 15-13 in the fifth seed. Albin Hubscher fell in his match
against Plangger 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6.
Rollins (5-2) will be back in action when they travel to
California for Spring Break to first take on Azusa Pacific on
Monday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m.
