WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 15, 2008) - The Rollins College men's lacrosse team earned their first ever win in Friday afternoon's home game against the Savannah College of Art and Design. The Tars fought their way to a 13-6 victory over the Bees, bumping their record to 1-1, and dropping SCAD to a record of 2-2.

Leading the way for the Tars was sophomore attackman Charlie Shelly with four goals. Midfielder Chris Gorman was right on Shelly's heels toting up another three goals for the team, while junior Drew Bernstein and freshman Peter Harvey each tallied two.

Rounding out the goal count for the Tars were juniors Andy Katz and Henry Cadwalader with one goal apiece, and denying the SCAD offense in the cage were freshmen Zach Cole with 14 saves, and Doug O'Brien adding one.

The Tars got off to a slow start and were down 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. Another SCAD goal in the second would leave Rollins trailing by three, but the team pulled together to post two goals, and at the halftime break the score was 4-2 with SCAD holding the lead.

The Bees would pull ahead by three as the third quarter kicked off, but Rollins transformed into a well-oiled machine throughout the remainder of the period. In the last three and a half minutes the Tars posted four goals to pull them ahead by one as they entered into the final quarter.

The Bees were never able to recover from the Tars third quarter scoring streak, posting their only fourth quarter goal in the first few minutes, and falling progressively behind as the clock counted down. The Rollins offense was on fire as they dominated the fourth quarter goal count 7-1, and the defense capitalized on SCAD turnovers to keep the ball from staying in their zone.

The Tars will be back in action on their home turf at Showalter Field in Winter Park, Florida on February 19 against Elmira College. Faceoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on the Citizens Bank of Florida Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.tv.
