WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 20, 2008)
Rollins had little trouble from the start as 13 different players
scored at least four points in the Tars 76-20 victory over the
University of Puerto Rico Cayey Thursday night.
The win pushes Rollins to 3-0 on the young season while the Lady
Bulls drop to 0-4.
Erin
Kirkwood netted 10 points to lead the balanced Rollins offense.
Jessica
Pressley hit three 3-pointers en route to nine points with Rachael
Malatesta, Paris
Moore and Julie
Gorman each adding eight.
Jessenia Vegerano connected on four from long range to pace
Cayey with 12 points.
The Tars earned a huge advantage on the boards, out rebounding
the visitors 53-23. Rollins shot 29-66 (44 percent) for the game
and held the Bulls to just 6-42 (14 percent).
Cayey, playing their third game in as many days, scored first
and hung with Rollins through the first three plus minutes as a
pair of Angela Nieves free throws cut the Tars lead to 8-4 at the
16:45 mark of the first half. From that point on, however, it was
all Rollins as they outscored Cayey 26-0 over the next 13 minutes
to take a 34-4 lead. The advantage was cut to 26 with 2:30 to go in
the half, but a Gorman jumper late in the frame put the halftime
score at 37-9, Rollins.
The Tars opened the second half on a 28-3 run over the first 10
minutes to go up 65-12 halfway through the second half. The Bulls
got some shots to fall down the stretch, but Rollins ramped up the
pressure to post the 56 point victory.
Rollins will take the weekend off before hosting Puerto Rico
Bayamon Monday, November 24 at 5:30 p.m. Fans can follow all the
action live on the Citizens Bank of Florida Tars Sports Network at
