MEN'S BASKETBALL AT A GLANCE...
After opening the 2008-09 regular-season with a 71-59 victory over
NAIA affiliate, Warner, Monday evening at Warden Arena, the Rollins
men's basketball team welcomes visiting Puerto Rico-Cayey to Winter
Park, Fla., for its second game of the season.
The Tars and Bulls have battled six times with Rollins capturing
victories in each of the meetings. In last year's meeting between
the two schools, the Tars cruised in a 91-49 victory led by Craig
Reichel and Jeremy Sharpe's 16 points. Reserves Brock Blanchard
and Ryan Ferranti recorded career-highs with 15 and 12 points,
respectively.
Off the bench, Luis Collazo scored a game-best with 17 points,
while Ivan Ortiz netted 12 points to lead the Bulls.
On the season, junior guard Ghristian Casanova enters Thursday's
contest averaging 24.5 points with Emanuel Rivera following closely
behind averaging 19.5.
Puerto Rico-Cayey limps into the contest after a 54-point loss
against Sunshine State Conference foe, Tampa and an 89-72 loss at
Saint Leo. Despite holding a four-point advantage at halftime, the
Lions outfought the Bulls to claim a victory in their season
opener.
With the win over the Royals, the Tars have started two-straight
seasons with victories. Last year, the Tars defeated Southeastern,
75-72 as former Rollins stand-out Jeremy Reibel dropped in 24
points while Nick Wolf hauled in a team-best 12 boards.
At the helm of Rollins basketball is head coach Tom Klusman who
picked up his 504th victory during his 29 year tenure.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL AT A GLANCE...
Rollins looks to keep their winning streak going tonight as they
face the Lady Bulls of Puerto Rico-Cayey. The Tars are coming off a
big win against Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday night, 76-44. The
Lady Bulls come into tonight's game having lost to Saint Leo last
night, 92-42.
Against the Sailfish less than 24 hours ago Ines Teuma, Jessica
Pressley, and Kourtnie Barry all scored double-figures. Pressley
led the way with 16 points, while Teuma and Berry scored 14 and 10
respectively. Freshmen point gaurd Paris Moore led the team with
seven assists and went 2-2 from the free-throw line and registered
two steals.
The Lady Bulls are coming off a disappointing loss against the
Saint Leo Lions last night as they were handily beaten in all areas
of the game. The one bright spot for the Lady Bulls is that after a
poor first half they came back and shot 47% in the second game.
Tonight's matchup will be the third time these teams have met with
Rollins taking the first two games.
The Tars were picked to finish fifth in the Sunshine State
Conference preseason poll. Rollins finished 8-8 in conference play
last season.
Head Coach Glenn Wilkes is entering his 23rd season as head coach
of the Tars. Wilkes is approaching the 500 victory mark and should
obtain it this season as he only needs 11 wins.
After tonight's game, Rollins will host Puerto Rico-Bayamon on
Monday, November 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Warden Arena.
