Winter Park, Fla. (October 18, 2008) - The Tars
were unable to pick up a much needed conference win on Senior Night
on Saturday evening. Nova was able to shut the Tars out for the
fifth time this season by a score of 3-0. Both teams were looking
to pick up conference wins to improve their postseason SSC
Tournament chances. The Tars now fall to 6-8 overall, 3-4 in SSC
play. The Sharks improve to 9-5-2 overall, 2-2 in SSC play. The
loss forces the Tars to win its remaining games if they want to
improve their postseason chance.
Tars keeper Aaron Rokeach was not able to slow down the Sharks
offense as David Wahlberg collected two goals and Craig Heenigan
picked up the third. Nova was able to end the half with a two goal
lead. The second half did not bring any changes for the Tars as the
Sharks were able to add another goal. Walhberg scored on a pass
through the defense in the fourth minute of the game. Late on in
the 38th minute Heenigan was able to add a goal off a rebound from
keeper Aaron Rokeach. In the 52nd minute it was Wahlberg again
beating the defense of the Tars to score his second goal of the
night.
The Tars offense struggled to obtain quality scoring chances all
night as their shots sailed high or wide of the frame. Rollins
fired off 13 shots to seven from Nova, but that did not help the
Tars on the scoreboard.
Rollins will now finish its season with road games against
Warner Southern, Barry, and Flagler. These are must win games for
the Tars if they look to keep their hopes of postseason play
alive.
The Tars will travel to take on the Flagler Saints on October 22
in St. Augustine, Fla.
