WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 9, 2008) ' The
Rollins men's swim team earned a mid-week double dual split on
Wednesday, downing Gordon but falling to Westminster. The Tars
racked up 102 points to 15 from Gordon with Westminster scoring a
close 65-54 win.
Colby Loetz in the 100 yard backstroke and Kamel Tejeda in the
500 yard freestyle were winners for Rollins. Loetz posted a time of
58.37 in the 100 yard event and was third in the 200 yard
backstroke in 2:11.21. He also joined Billy Shurgart, Tom Alexander
and Carson Nicely to win the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:30.71
and Nicely, Jackson Nicholson and Jeff Mueller to finish second in
the 400 yard medley relay (3:53.60). Tejeda won the 500 freestyle
in 5:04.07 and was runner-up in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time
of 10:32.53.
Mueller picked up a pair of second place finishes in another
solid showing for Rollins. He stopped the clock in the 200 yard
butterfly in 2:04.90 and was also second in the 200 yard IM in
2:05.66. Nicholson was second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:46.45)
with Nicely in the 50 freestyle (22.66) and Alexander in the 100
yard freestyle (50.24) each earning third place finishes.
The Rollins swim team will be back in the pool on Saturday,
January 12 when they will host Sewanee at 2 p.m. in Winter
Park.
