ORLANDO, Fla.' (January 2, 2008) ' Rollins
senior point guard Jonny Reibel (Chicago, Ill.) has been named
Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, SSC Commissioner
Michael Marcil announced Wednesday.
Reibel, the reigning SSC Player of the Year, had a huge holiday
break and led No. 4 Rollins to four big victories and pushed their
season record to 10-0.
In the Las Vegas High Desert Classic, he put up a career high 31
points, dished out six assists and pulled down five boards in
Rollins' 88-76 win over previously unbeaten No. 3 Drury University.
The following day he led the Tars over host Central Missouri State
86-79, recording 30 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Rollins returned home to host the 33rd Annual Winter Park Rotary
Tangerine Tournament December 29-30. The Tars routed Columbia Union
in their semifinal with Reibel getting 10 points, 12 assists, seven
steals and four rebounds. In the tournament championship game, the
Tars matched up with No. 13 and undefeated South Carolina Aiken.
Reibel played all 40 minutes and led Rollins to an exciting 85-83
win, scoring 25 points and handing out five assists with five
rebounds en route to tournament MVP honors.
On the season, Reibel leads Rollins with 20.4 points and 7.9
assists per game. He is shooting 51 percent from the field, 51
percent from beyond the arch and 84 percent from the free throw
line.
Reibel will look to keep the Tars undefeated when they host
Tampa in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday, January 2
at 7:30 p.m. UT, the only team to best the Tars twice in the
regular season last year, is 7-2 on the year and is coming off an
89-75 win over No. 12 Augusta State.
