Tars Split Double Dual with Tampa and Saint Leo

TAMPA, Fla. (January 19, 2008) ' Kamel Tejeda won the 500 yard freestyle and was third in the 1000 to lead the Rollins men's swim team in a double dual split with Tampa and Saint Leo on Saturday. The Tars fell to host UT 58-37, but beat Saint Leo by the same score, 57-37.

Tejeda posted a time of 5:01.04 in the 500 yard freestyle to post the Tars lone individual victory. Earlier in the day, he went 10:26.95 in the 1000 yard freestyle to finish third.

The Tars 200 yard medley relay of Colby Loetz, Jackson Nicholson, Jeff Mueller and Carson Nicely started the Tars day with a runner-up finish in 1:42.80. Nicholson went on to finish third in the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.78) and second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.04). Mueller finished third in the 100 yard butterfly in 55.03, less than a second from first place. Loetz was third in the 100 yard freestyle in 59.89 and Nicely was second in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.80.

Tom Alexander took third in the 100 yard freestyle (50.54) while Paul Hoffman finished third in the 200 yard IM (2:09.44).

The Tars second victory of the day came in the final event as Brad Rubash teamed with Loetz, Mueller and Nicely to win the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:31.07.

Rollins will be back in the pool and on the road in their next competition on Saturday, January 26. The Tars will travel to Savannah, Georgia for a double dual meet with Savannah College of Art & Design and Darton at 2 p.m.
