WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 12, 2008) ' The
Rollins women's swim team held a one point lead with two events to
go, but couldn't hold on and fell to Sewanee, the University of the
South 103-102 on Saturday. Casey Shufelt and Tayler Marx led the
way for the Tars, each taking part in three victories.
Shufelt posted a pair of convincing individual victories in the
100 yard and 200 yard freestyle races. She won the 200 in a time of
2:06.08, three seconds ahead of runner up Lauren Griesser
(2:09.78). She came back to take the 100 in 59.26 with teammate
Janice Haramis coming in third in 1:00.91. Marx won the 50 yard
freestyle in 26.09 while Amanda Terr was right behind in second
with a time of 27.27.
The Tars started the day with a win in the 200 yard medley relay
as Griesser, Marx, Stephanie Posner and Corie Kelly stopped the
clock at 2:02.18. The Rollins B team of Haramis, Terr, Kelly
Cuddihy and Megan Mattingly came in second in 2:05.89. Griesser was
also an individual winner, taking the 100 yard backstroke in
1:08.49.
Ally Best had a big day in the distance races, earning a pair of
runner-up finishes. She posted a time of 11:44.19 in the 1000 yard
freestyle and 5:43.91 in the 500 yard freestyle.'
Rollins ended the day with a win in the 200 yard freestyle as
Terr, Shufelt, Mattingly and Marx went 1:47.16. The meet was won
for Sewanne four seconds later when the Tigers A team downed
Rollins B team by six ticks to pick up the deciding points.
The Rollins women's swim team will be back in the pool on
Saturday, January 19 in a double dual with Tampa and Saint Leo at
Tampa. Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
