WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 19, 2007) ' The
Rollins volleyball team lost a tough match against the No. 1 ranked
Tampa Spartans 3-1 (30-25, 26-30, 30-21, 30-18) on Wednesday
evening at Warden Arena.
The Tars were led by seniors Christina Reinders and Lorena
Orlandini who each tallied 12 kills on the night with Reinders also
playing incredible defense digging nine balls. Outside hitter Piper
Young added 11 kills and six digs with sophomore Natalie Branche
notching five kills for Rollins. Lacey Malarky had 37 assists and
Kim Cline and Stephanie Nichols were excellent on defense with a
combined 27 digs.
In the first game against the Spartans, Rollins came within
three (25-28), but Tampa pulled away with the Game 1 win. The Tars
came out on fire in the second game eventually building up to a
six-point lead over Tampa (25-19). Crucial kills down the stretch
by Nichols and Reinders gave the Tars the Game 2 victory. Their
momentum was short-lived as the top-ranked Spartans proved why they
regained the No. 1 spot in the nation. It was all Tampa in the
third and fourth games as their libero Margeaux Sinibaldi broke the
Sunshine State Conference record in digs with 1,827 in her career
thus far.
The Spartans (12-1, 2-0) were led by senior Katelen Dixon who
had 15 kills and 11 digs and Erin Clark who totaled 14 kills and
three aces.
The Tars (9-6, 1-1) will be back in action on Friday, September
21 as they host the Saint Leo Lions (13-3, 0-0) at 7:00 p.m. at
