TAMPA, Fla. (May 4, 2007) - A two-run homerun
by sophomore third baseman Anthony Soto was all the offense that
the Rollins baseball team could muster in a 9-2 loss to No. 2 Tampa
in Sunshine State Conference action on Friday night at the UT
Baseball Field.' The Tars dropped to 25-26 overall and 9-13 in SSC
play, and the Spartans improved to 40-9, 18-4.
Freshman right fielder Phil Hendricks, sophomore left fielder
Jesse More, and Soto led the Tars lineup with multi-hit games.'
Hendricks went 3-4 with one run, More had two singles in four at
bats, and Soto went 2-4 with one run and two RBI.' Senior starter
David Nathanson (8-3) was credited with the loss after allowing
seven runs, six earned, through five innings.' Freshman reliever
Dean Reinke pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs.
Shortstop Roberto Mena, after being named National Player of the
Week for his performance in the previous week, continued his hot
hitting for Tampa by going 4-5 with three singles, one homerun,
three runs, and two RBI.' Right fielder Craig Corrado (3-5, double,
one run, one RBI) and catcher Chris Rosenbaum (3-5, double, one
run, three RBI) also excelled at the plate.' Kevin Ferguson (10-2)
pitched five scoreless innings for the win, and Anthony Perez
finished the final four with just two runs allowed for his second
save of the year.
Rollins will return to Tampa for their final SSC games on
Sunday, May 6 in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.' Fans can
