LAKELAND, Fla. (April 7, 2007) ' The Rollins
baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 12
Florida Southern at Henley Field on Saturday afternoon, first
losing 7-6 in 10 innings in Game One and then falling 11-6 in Game
Two.' The Tars now stand at 22-17 overall and 7-8 in Sunshine State
Conference play, and the Moccasins improved to 30-9, 6-6.
Rollins starter David Nathanson lasted seven innings in Game
One, giving up 10 hits and five runs.' The senior right-hander
limited Florida Southern to one run through the first six innings,
but the Moccasins rallied for four runs in the seventh to take a
5-4 lead.' Rollins tied the game in the ninth when junior center
fielder Corey Whiting walked and scored on a double by junior left
fielder Mike Crane.' Rollins scored one in the top of the 10th on
an error by Florida Southern second baseman Wade Waybrant, but the
Moccasins returned the favor in the bottom of the inning, scoring
two on a bases loaded error by Tars second baseman Ryan Luker for
the walk-off win.
Tars reliever Jon Wano (5-4) picked up the loss, giving up two
unearned runs in two and one third innings.' Whiting led the Tars
lineup, going 2-3 with three runs, three walks, and two stolen
bases.' Crane and senior shortstop Ryan McKenzie also picked up two
hits in the game.' Florida Southern reliever Ryan Koch picked up
the win, striking out two batters in two thirds of an inning.'
Center fielder Kyle Patrick (2-5, one run, one RBI), first baseman
Fred Popp (2-4, double, two RBI), and designated hitter Tristan
Rainone (2-5, one run, one RBI) hit well for the Moccasins.
Rollins starter Marc Hewett (2-4) picked up the loss in Game
Two, allowing six runs on five hits and one walk.' Junior first
baseman Stefano Foggi and sophomore right fielder Jesse More each
performed at the plate, as Foggi went 3-4 with two RBI and More
went 3-4 with one run.' Crane (2-3, two runs) and McKenzie (2-3,
double, one RBI) also hit well for the Tars in Game Two.' Koch
(4-0) picked up his second win of the day, pitching four innings
out of the bullpen while allowing one unearned run and striking out
five.' Patrick went 1-2 with a grand slam and three runs scored,
and Rainone hit 2-3 with two runs scored.
Rollins will start a non-conference series with Flagler College
on Friday, April 13 in St. Augustine, Fla. at 7:00 p.m., and the
two teams will play at Alfond Stadium in Winter Park, Fla. in a
doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.' For the
