ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (April 13, 2007) ' The
Rollins baseball team fell to non-conference opponent Flagler 16-3
on Friday night at Flagler Stadium.' The Tars dropped to 22-18
overall with the loss, and Flagler improved to 18-24.
Freshman starter Danny Clark (1-2) was credited with the loss
and did not last long, as he allowed eight Flagler runs in the
second inning without retiring a batter.' Clark finished the day
with one inning pitched and eight runs, six hits, and three walks
allowed.' Sophomores Michael Eppich and Mark Jigarjian and freshmen
Bobby Coster and Chad Giannuzzi pitched the rest of the way, and
Coster struck out the side in the eighth in his one inning of
work.' Freshman second baseman Ryan Luker drove in all three runs,
the first two on a single in the sixth and the third on a double in
the eighth.' Freshman right fielder Scott Chase (2-4, one run) and
junior center fielder Corey Whiting (2-5) also hit well for the
Tars.
Left fielder Kenny Ray was a double away from the cycle, hitting
3-5 with two runs and nine RBI for the Saints.' Ray put an
exclamation point on the eight-run second inning with a grand slam
over the left field wall, and he followed that with a two-run
triple in the third.' Right fielder Glenn Kiture (2-4, three runs,
one RBI) and shortstop Cale Owen (2-3, four runs) also joined in on
the offensive barrage.' Flagler starter Tim DeSutter (4-3) picked
up the complete game win, allowing three runs, one earned, on eight
hits and two walks.' DeSutter also finished the day with seven
strikeouts.
Rollins and Flagler will continue the series at Alfond Stadium
on Saturday, April 14 with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.'
