Rollins Splits Doubleheader with Flagler

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 14, 2007) ' Senior right-hander David Nathanson pitched his second shutout of the year in Rollins' 10-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against non-conference opponent Flagler College at Alfond Stadium on Saturday, but the Tars fell in the nightcap 13-5 to come away with a split.' Rollins now stands at 23-19 overall, and Flagler leaves with a record of 19-25.

Nathanson (8-1) picked up his team-leading eighth win in the Game One shutout, and it also was his fourth complete game of the year.' The senior right-hander scattered seven hits over nine innings, and he struck out two while not walking a batter.' Freshman right fielder Scott Chase, sophomore catcher Eugene Martinez, and junior center fielder Corey Whiting each had three hits for the Tars.' Martinez hit a two-run homerun in the second inning, and he added a third RBI on a single in the sixth.' Whiting scored two runs in Game One, as did junior designated hitter Mike Crane and senior shortstop Ryan McKenzie.

Austin Donmoyer (2-3) was credited with the loss in Game One, as he allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks over three innings pitched.' Center fielder Payne Maddox was the only Flagler player to record two hits, and both of his hits were doubles.

After being shut out by the Tars through nine innings in Game One, Flagler got on the board early in Game Two, scoring three in the first inning off freshman starter Marc Hewett.' Hewett (2-5) surrendered six runs, five earned, in three innings pitched.' Chase continued his hot hitting in Game Two, going 2-3 with a double and two RBI.'

Designated hitter Wade Lamont and left fielder Kenny Ray led Flagler at the plate; Lamont went 3-4 with a double, homerun, three runs, and five RBI, and Ray went 3-4 with two doubles, one triple, four runs, and one RBI.' Saints starter Kyle Cancellieri (3-2) picked up the win after allowing five runs, four earned, through five and one thirds innings.
