Rollins Drops Two to Nova Southeastern in SSC Doubleheader

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 21, 2007) ' In a grueling doubleheader at Alfond Stadium on Saturday, the Rollins baseball team dropped both games to Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern, losing 10-7 in the first game and 13-7 in the second.' The Tars dropped to 23-22 overall and 7-10 in conference play, and Nova Southeastern now stands at 33-14, 7-10.

Sophomore catcher Eugene Martinez continued his hot hitting, leading the Tars in Game One by going 4-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.' Freshman right fielder Scott Chase and junior infielder Stefano Foggi also performed well at the plate; Chase went 3-5 with a double, one run, and two RBI, and Foggi hit 3-5 with two runs scored.' Senior starter David Nathanson (8-2) was credited with just his second loss of the year, allowing six runs on nine hits and one walk through seven innings.

Nick Carris (4-2) picked up the win for NSU after three and two thirds strong innings out of the bullpen, allowing three runs, all unearned, on three hits.' Sharks center fielder Matt Mindick excelled at the plate, hitting 3-5 with a double, three runs, and three RBI.' First baseman Bryan Cook and left fielder J.D. Martinez also homered for the NSU lineup.

Game Two started off with plenty of action, as NSU took an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first, only to see the Tars fire back with six in the bottom of the inning.' The Sharks kept hitting, and Rollins scored just one more through the final six innings.' Junior center fielder Corey Whiting starred at the plate, hitting 4-5 with a double, one run, one RBI, and two stolen bases.' Freshman right-hander Michael Prusak (0-2) was charged with the loss in relief, as he allowed two runs on four hits in one and one third innings.

NSU reliever Ricardo Martinez (3-1) pitched five stellar innings out of the bullpen for the Game Two win, scattering seven hits while not allowing a run.' The first six batters in the Sharks lineup all had at least two hits, and right fielder Bryan Valencia led the way by hitting 3-5 with a double, two runs, and three RBI.
