TAMPA, Fla. (April 20, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's tennis team bounced back in the SSC Championships as they
defeated the Eckerd College Tritons 5-0 in the first round of the
backdraw at the Hillsborough Community College Tennis Complex.
The Tars (20-4) dominated doubles play, taking all three matches
against the Lions handily. The No. 7 team of Tasi Purcell and
Marnie Mahler trounced Madora Mak and Mary-Charlotte Mak 8-3 in the
No. 1 seed. In the second position, Sonia Bernal and Mai-Han Nguyen
crushed Stephanie Bowen and Danielle Loizzo 8-2. Anastasiya
Shevchenko and Silvia Frandji won their 19th team match as they
suppressed Sarah Blei and Katie Plemons 8-1.
Singles play featured straight set blanking wins for No. 2
Mahler and No. 4 Shevchenko, while the remaining four matches went
unfinished on the afternoon.
Rollins will play the winner of Tampa and Saint Leo on Saturday
April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
