TAMPA, Fla. (April 21, 2007) ' Sweeping all
three doubles matches and the top three singles bouts, the Rollins
women's tennis team defeated the Tampa Spartans 6-0 on Saturday
afternoon at the Hillsborough Community College Tennis Complex.
Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler improved their team record to
21-2 by routing Jamie Lieberman and Kourtney Stark 8-3 in the No. 1
match. In the second seed, Sonia Bernal and Mai-Han Nguyen
overpowered Allison Beck and Jessica Faber 8-5. Anastasiya
Shevchenko and Silvia Frandji increased their record to 20-4 on the
season as they defeated Claire Darling and Caitlin Scudder 8-6.
Purcell, Mahler and Bernal had no trouble dispatching of their
singles opponents on their way to the fifth place title. Purcell
crushed Faber 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1, while Mahler thrashed
Lieberman 6-2, 6-2 in the second seed. Bernal didn't give Stark a
fighting chance as she pounded the Spartan 6-0, 6-2 in the No.
3.
The Tars (21-4) will be back in action on May 3-5 when they play
in the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.
