WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 31, 2007) ' The No. 19
Rollins men's tennis team rebounded with a huge win over 12th
ranked Florida Gulf Coast 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Bert
Martin Complex.
Rollins (13-7) took the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles bout, but fell
in the third seed match. The top ranked doubles team of Brian
Compton and Jonathan Gomez notched an impressive win over the
nationally-ranked No. 2 team of Brenton Bacon and Alex Gjesten 8-4.
Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo defeated Danny Lee and Edson Lima
8-6 in the second seed. The No. 3 team of Adrian Tan and Michael
Schwartz lost a close match to Brad Henderson and Alberto Gutierrez
9-7.
The Tars won three singles matches, losing two contests with the
No. 1 match going unfinished. The Compton versus Bacon match-up
went unfinished, while Gomez overwhelmed Gutierrez 6-3, 6-2 in the
second spot. No. 37 Tan lost in the No. 3 position to Alex Gjesten
6-2, 7-6, but Carvalho bounced back with a win over Mikkel Muller
6-2, 7-6 in the No. 4 slot. Seijo also captured a straight set
victory over Lima 6-2, 7-6 in the fifth seed. In the No. 6, Albin
Hubscher was routed by Lee 6-3, 7-5.
Rollins will hit the hard courts on Monday, April 2 when they
host Saint Leo (4-10, 1-3) at 3:00 p.m. at the Martin Complex.
